Aberdeen's Christmas Village open today
But Christmas Tree switch-on called off due to weather
Last updated 17th Nov 2022
The switching on of Aberdeen's Christmas Tree lights maye have been postponed - but the Christmas Village opens today as the popular attraction makes a return to the Granite City for 2022.
A familiar fixture of Christmas for locals living in the city and those further afield, it offers a fun and festive experience for visitors.
The village hosts an array of outdoor food and drinks bars, each offering seasonal favourites, such as Bratwurst hotdogs, churros, Dutch pancakes, hot chocolate and mulled wine.
Visitors can also enjoy outdoor activities such as ice skating, amusement rides and on select dates, “Curated in the Quad”, a Christmas market filled with goods produced by local sellers. Overall, the village hopes to provide Aberdeen with some festive fun to celebrate the lead-up to Christmas.
The task of bringing the Aberdeen Christmas Village to life was undertaken by the combined efforts of Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen Inspired and Codona’s Amusement Park.
The three organisations also worked with the local charity Charlie House, who have curated the sellers within the Quad this year.
A percentage of proceeds from these sellers will go towards Charlie House to support children's respite care in the Grampian area.
All involved have been excited to create a venue to enrich the activities available within the city and encourage visitors to come and enjoy what the village has to offer.
Ian Littlewood, Operations Director for Codona’s stated, “The whole team at Codonas are really excited to be back at the Christmas Village. As well as the Village Ice Rink we have a great selection of rides with something for every age and thrill level.”
The Aberdeen Christmas Village is located on Broad Street, in front of Marischal College. It will be open 12pm-10pm Monday-Thursday, 12pm-midnight Friday, 10am-midnight Saturday and 10am-10pm Sunday until December 31st.
The village will be open 11am midweek during the school holidays and closed on both Christmas and Boxing day. Further details, including opening dates and times of the Quad, may be found on the Aberdeen City Council website, or by contacting the Aberdeen Christmas Village via Facebook or Instagram.
