Two pensioners in hospital following A96 crash

The four-vehicle collision happened earlier this afternoon

Police in Inverurie are appealing for information after a serious road crash on the A96 at Colpy earlier.

Officers raced to the scene of the collision involving a lorry and four cars on the Inverurie to Huntly road around 2.15pm.

A 74-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman from one of the cars were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where they are being treated for their injuries.

Hospital staff describe their condition as serious.

The road is currently shut to allow for a full investigation into the cause of the crash to take place.

Sergeant Sarah Ritchie from the Road Policing Unit at Inverurie said: “We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash take place to contact us. I am also keen to obtain any dash-cam footage from drivers in the area at the time.

“Information should be passed to 101 with reference number 1686 of 12 January.”
