It's just over 500 days until tall ships make a grand return to the Granite City for the first time in 28 years.

50 ships will dock in the North Harbour at Port of Aberdeen for the largest free family event in Europe and is expected to attract over 400,000 visitors over four days.

Upper Dock and Regent Quay will be transformed into a "world-class" event space.

The famous fleet will arrive to an opening ceremony on the first day of the festival with over 1,500 sailors joining a parade the following day, featuring live music, dance and theatre.

Visitors will be able to board the ships during the event whilst a programme of events take place including local and Scottish talent, from sea shanties, street performers and headline acts.

On the final day, a fireworks display will be held before the ships set sail for Kristiansand in Norway.

Councillor Martin Greig, Aberdeen City Council, said: “Hosting The Tall Ships Race is a great opportunity for everyone in Aberdeen to celebrate our maritime heritage.

"The event will bring together people of all ages and backgrounds in an amazing festival of the sea.

"It will be a truly international experience that will make a huge impact for the good on the city and region.

"Preparations are well underway and much work has been planned to make sure that all can enjoy this splendid experience."
