45-Year-Old Man Jailed For Series Of Assaults On Aberdeenshire Women

A 45-year-old man has been jailed for a series of assaults on women in Aberdeenshire, over a period of 20 years.

Alec Cowie was sentenced to eight years and three months, today at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Detective Constable Martin Robertson said: "We welcome the prison sentence handed down to Alec Cowie today.

"Cowie is a violent and controlling individual who has committed a catalogue of serious offences against females over a number of years.

"It is due to the bravery of Cowie's victims in coming forward, speaking to our officers and then giving evidence during the trial that his abuse has come to an end.

"I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the strength and character shown by the victims and also thank those who have supported them at this time. Hopefully the convictions and sentencing today will provide some form of closure for them.

"This enquiry was complex and took some time to complete, and I would like to thank the team of dedicated officers and staff who worked very hard to bring Alec Cowie to justice.
