Aberdeenshire Councillors have approved £3million of emergency funding to cover the cost of flooding throughout the region.

The money was approved for remedial works required following damage caused by Storm Frank.

The total cost for repairs is expected to be around £7.6million.

Cllr Richard Thomson chaired the meeting of policy and resources and said: “The council has reserves and contingency funds set aside to deal with emergencies and this is part of our robust financial strategy.

“The response to the flooding has been fantastic – and within just a short time – communities are getting back on their feet.

“The council has established a flood recovery group which is identifying works and overseeing the delivery of this programme. The estimated list of work so far totals around £7.6 million. Whilst the council will make use of its emergency funds, we’re also very grateful to the Scottish Government for their additional financial support.

“Council officers responded well to the flooding, making use of emergency powers to implement a programme of urgent repairs to ensure that communities were reconnected and disruption to travel was minimised in as short a space of time as possible.“
