300 Households Without Phone and Internet Service After Aberdeen Flooding

Around 300 households are still without phone and internet following flash flooding throughout Aberdeen on Tuesday.

In the space of a few hours, streets were cut off, houses were flooded, and cars were submerged under water.

Some of the worst affected areas were Polmuir Road, Holburn Street, Market Street and Anderson Drive.

A BT spokesman said: “Around 300 telephone and broadband users in Aberdeen are without service following the torrential rain and flash floods which swept through many city streets on Tuesday.

“Lines to homes and businesses, mainly in the harbour area, went down as BT manholes and cable chambers filled up with rising floodwater.

“Openreach engineer are working to restore service but access to sites requires having to obtain traffic management permissions and there are restrictions on daytime working.

“Repair work will begin last night on underground cables at Union Square but was only permitted after 6.30pm when traffic is lighter. It will take several days to reconnect all of the affected lines.”
