There’s an appeal for information after a 19-year-old man sustained serious injuries during an assault in the Bedford Avenue area of Aberdeen at the weekend.

Officers were made aware of an incident which took place at around 2am on Saturday October 21, 2017. The young man involved sustained injuries to his face and had to be treated at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Enquiries are ongoing to trace three people who could assist, including -

• a man in his late 20s, around 6ft tall, of a medium build with dark brown short hair. He was wearing a 'Harrington'-style jacket with a red T-shirt underneath and dark trousers

• a woman in her early 20s, around 5ft 5, of a slim build with blonde highlighted hair. She was wearing distinctive black and white pyjama bottoms and a fleece-style top

• a man around 6ft 1, of a medium build who was wearing jeans.

PC Alan Gordon, of the Divisional Alcohol Violence Reduction Unit (DAVRU) - which is leading the investigation - said: "It would appear that this assault was unprovoked, which is completely unacceptable. The man involved has sustained a serious injury to his face however I don't think I need to stress that the outcome could have been much worse - even just one punch can have fatal consequences.

"We suspect these individuals may be local to the area and I am appealing to local residents to help us solve this crime. I would ask anyone who lives in the area, or may have been there on the night in question and saw anyone matching the descriptions provided, to please get in touch by calling Police on 101 quoting ref. number 0602 of Oct 21, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 to remain anonymous."
