Aberdeen City Council's administration plan to include a £150 Million injection into the capital plan, which aims to refresh the city centre and beach front, in their budget proposal.

The meeting on the budget takes place on Wednesday (March 10).

This cash injection follows the Administration’s successful motion at the February 2021 City Growth and Resources Committee which agreed to review the Masterplan.

Refreshing the plan means it's not yet decided which specific projects would benefit from the funding, but strong pedestrian and cycle linkage between the city centre and beach is one area highlighted by the Administration.

Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Jenny Laing said:

“Our Administration remains committed to supporting the growth of the city’s economy and we believe this £150m capital commitment will help to aid the city’s socio-economic recovery from Covid-19 and attract further inward investment from the private sector helping to create thousands of new jobs."

"Our commitment to including the Beach within the Masterplan makes complete sense when you consider that Aberdeen city centre is relatively unique in being within comfortable walking distance of an active harbour, a beach and two major rivers."

Councillor Laing added: "The aim is to create stronger pedestrian and cycle linkages to Aberdeen’s waterfronts and establish these diverse environments as unique destinations for activity generating use which will in turn helps contribute to the overall experience of Aberdeen city centre for residents and visitors alike."
