138 buses cancelled in Aberdeen
Operator First Bus say it's due to driver shortages
Last updated 15th Jul 2022
First Bus have cancelled 138 buses today, with all bar three services affected.
It's as a result of "driver shortage", with the operator asking the public to be "patient".
A statement on the First Bus Aberdeen website reads: "We're really sorry for the inconvenience that this will cause. We're working hard to run as many journeys as possible.
"Please be patient with our team of drivers - it's not their fault and they're working very hard to get you where you need to go.
"Due to the current national driver shortage the journeys below will not operate today."
Re-routing of their services has already left residents in Aberdeen "distressed", with Kirsty Blackman set to meet with locals in Footdee to discuss the loss of their only service.
'Aberdeen's bus services are in turmoil'
North East MSP Douglas Lumsden has criticised buses in the area after the cancellations.
“Aberdeen’s bus services are in turmoil which is causing huge disruption for passengers across the city.
“It’s extremely worrying that all but three routes in Aberdeen have been impacted which shows the sheer scale of the problem."
The former Co-Leader of Aberdeen City Council is calling on the Scottish Government to offer more support to operators.
"Bus companies are still struggling from the pandemic and the Scottish Government needs to come up with a long-term solution to help with the recruitment of drivers.
"The last thing anyone wants is for services to be scrapped due to this shortage which would isolate communities while making it difficult to get to work, college and school."
