For most of us running a marathon sounds pretty excessive, well how about 10 of them? In consecutive days...on Bennachie.

That's the challenge Inverurie man Martin Longmuir is tackling.

He's doing it all to raise money for North East cancer charity the Friends of Anchor. The charity is close to his heart because of the support they provided his Mum during her battle with breast cancer - a fight she won.

He's already raised well over £4,000

The 40-year-old is a former soldier, and he now works as an NDT technician.

This is a challenge so grueling that by Tuesday (day 7) he'd surpassed the equivalent amount of elevation climb as if he was to scale Everest.

Martin said: “This is definitely the toughest physical challenge I have ever taken on. There’s a lot of technical running up and down the hills, and the conditions have been tricky - the weather has been really humid, and my feet have taken a battering.

"In the scheme of things it’s nothing, not when I think of the challenge my mum and other people close to me have faced going through cancer.

“I’ve really enjoyed speaking to people on the runs and have even had a kind donation from someone I met at the end of the first day. I’ve had a couple of friends join me for sections of the runs too and the support and messages from people have been pretty overwhelming.”

Today (Thursday July 29) is the ninth day of running, with the final push coming up tomorrow.

We asked Martin if he had any special plans for the after the finish line, he told us:

"Probably just eat and rest.

"I'll get my running kit washed and stuck away for a good few weeks, which I'm sure will please my wife."
