Bosses are monitoring the ever-changing rules

Although bosses at the BBC have done everything in their power to ensure the 2020 series of Strictly Come Dancing goes ahead, with Covid-19 rules and restrictions changing on a weekly basis, it's still all up in the air.

Just days before the 2020 launch show, which is due to take place on Monday 12th October, It Takes Two host Rylan Clark-Neal has been discussing the show's future.

Revealing bosses will cancel the show if they are forced to by any new rules, Rylan told Mail Online, "If Strictly can't go ahead for whatever reason, of course it won't."

He later added, "At the moment, it's all still going ahead and we are really looking forward to it. But of course, if the current restrictions change, there's no way the BBC would go against the law.

"But I think that's the same for every live TV show at the moment."

Rylan's remarks arrive after Sarah James, the Executive Producer for Strictly Come Dancing, spoke to the Radio Times about the strict rules in place surrounding Covid-19.

Confirming that any celebrities who test positive for Covid-19 will automatically be eliminated from the show, she said, "Unfortunately if you receive a positive test, that means you wouldn't be able to continue in the competition.

"Obviously with government guidelines, if you receive a positive test you have to isolate for two weeks and that would unfortunately rule them out of the show."

This year's series of Strictly Come Dancing will be shorter than usual, with the first show taking place on Saturday 24th October.
