Controversial news anchor Piers Morgan sent Twitter into a frenzy this morning after he 'confirmed' the news he is set to return to Good Morning Britain, just weeks after quitting his role following comments about Meghan Markle.

Piers wrote on Twitter to his 7.9 million followers today, 'UPDATE: Following the Archbishop of Canterbury's confirmation that Meghan Markle was talking a load of old flannel in her Oprah interview, ITV just offered me my @GMB job back & I've decided to accept. The nation's prayers have been answered. See you Monday!' (sic)

Despite many people taking to the comments section to express their opinions about his apparent return, we have to say, it is April Fools Day, and we suspect Piers is just having his followers on! 👀

Piers made the decision to leave his role on the breakfast news show last month, after walking off set following a heated debate with co-star Alex Beresford.

ITV released a short statement confirming Piers' exit, which read, "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

Check out these celebrity jobs before they were famous:

Simon Cowell

Music mogul Simon Cowell is one of the wealthiest men in the UK, with a net worth around £385 million, but The X Factor judge started out sorting out post for EMI.

Calvin Harris

Scotsman Calvin Harris is now one the biggest DJs in the world, but his first job was stacking shelves at a local super market.

Cheryl

Cheryl has enjoyed major success with Girls Aloud and as a solo artist, as well as appearing on a number of popular TV shows, but the Geordie girl used to be a waitress in her hometown of Newcastle.

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston is one of the biggest names in Hollywood now, but before she found fame she used to be a cleaner.

Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman has starred in massive movies such as The Greatest Showman and X-Men, but before finding fame the actor used to dress up as a clown for children's parties!

Beyoncé

Before becoming 'Queen Bey', Beyoncé had a Saturday job sweeping up hair in her mum's salon.

Brad Pitt

Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt has starred in movies such as Fight Club and Mr & Mrs Smith, but the actor's first job involved him dressing up as a chicken to promote a fast food restaurant.

Madonna

Madonna has sold over 300 million records worldwide, but before making it big she had a job at Dunkin' Donuts in New York!

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman is an Oscar-winning actress now, but she used to be a massage therapist before making it in Hollywood.

Following Piers' shock departure, his former co-star Susanna Reid has been joined by the likes of Ben Shephard, Kate Garraway, Charlotte Hawkins and Ranvir Singh in the last few weeks.

Speaking about her former co-star's exit, Susanna told viewers, "A number of people, of course, will know the news and many of you will not and will be surprised that Piers Morgan is not here this morning.

"Now, Piers and I have disagreed on many things, and that dynamic was one of the things that viewers loved about the programme.

"He is without a doubt an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster. He has many critics and he has many fans. You all know that I disagreed with him about Meghan's interview. He, himself, clarified his comments about her mental health on the show yesterday."

She added, "There are many voices on GMB and everyone has their say. But now Piers has decide to leave the programme.

"Some of you may cheer, and others will boo. He has been my presenting partner, Monday to Wednesday, for more than five years, and during Brexit and the pandemic and other issues, he has been a voice for many of you, and a voice that many of you have railed against.

"It is certainly going to be very different, but shows go on and so on we go."

Like we said earlier, it is April Fools Day, so we suspect you probably won't see Piers back on Good Morning Britain next week!
