The best things to watch on Netflix in May

We're still on lockdown, so there's plenty of time

Published 13th May 2020

May is not offering its usual relief. The sun is out, yes. Spring is indeed, well, springing. But it feels different when we're watching it do so from our window. With Coronavirus maintaining its grip on the UK and, indeed, the world, we're doing out bit by keeping inside. If you're seeking for distraction, Netflix has you covered.

There are some bonafide classics, like Sex Education, The Good Place, Elite, Gilmore Girls and, of course, Friends that will keep you going throughout the month. But there are also some new additions, including adorable new Netflix original films that the streaming giant is gaining a reputation for and American Horror Story director Ryan Murphy's newest endeavour.

Here's what's on Netflix this May:

Dead to Me, season 2

See what Jen and Judy have been up to since we last saw them, and get ready for a mind-blowing twist at the end.

The Half of It

This coming-of-age Netflix original follows Ellie, a shy and introverted girl, who somehow ends up helping the school jock, Paul, woo Aster, a girl whom, spoiler alert, they both secretly want.

The timing of this couldn't be better as we're all trapped at home staring at our drab gardens. Hollywood

Created by Ryan Murphy, of American Horror Story fame, Hollywood follows a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World War II Hollywood who will do almost anything to make their showbiz dreams come true.

Schitt's Creek, season 6

Say goodbye to your favourite family as the Schitts finally manage to get their sh*t together. Or do they?

Workin' Moms, Season 4

The fourth series of this extremely relatable show follows Kate as she juggles date night, breast pumping and overly competitive co-workers as Jenny deals with some NSFW problems at, well, work.

Space Force

One to watch for the LOLs, Space Force stars Steve Carrell and follows a group of people responsible for setting up the Space Force in the US.

In further telly-related news, Friends bosses have revealed the fate of the long-awaited reunion episode after filming was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to Variety, WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer chairman Bob Greenblatt explained, "At first we thought, shows will be delayed for a month or two at the most, and now it seems like it’s going to be far longer than that," he admitted to the publication.

"We’re holding out for being able to get this special done hopefully by the end of the summer, if the stars align and hopefully we can get back into production."
