Infamous northerner Vernon Kay has revealed that accents are problem in his household.

The entertainer, who now lives in London with his family, is famous for his strong Bolton accent.

However speaking to Mike and Chelsea on Key 103’s breakfast show, he revealed that his oldest daughter with Tess Daley, Phoebe, aged 10, once answered the phone to his mother criticising her broad northern accent.

He said: "My eldest, Phoebe speaks to my mum on a regular basis on the telephone, and my mum’s got this wonderful really broad Boltonian accent and Phoebe said: "Oh Grandma, I do wish you spoke English."

In response to the revelation, Chelsea stated that Vernon "needed to pack her up to Bolton for the summer holidays".

In retaliation to comments from fellow northerners Mike and Chelsea, he later complimented the well-spoken accent of his daughter, saying: "When we do get up north, everyone thinks she’s really posh. She has this beautiful accent, it’s really sweet."
