After Martha had been absent from social media since mid-July last year, the couple chose to record a video of themselves explaining her absence, revealing she'd been suffering from an extreme case of Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a condition which causes persistent severe vomiting during pregnancy.

Michael said in the video: "We wanted to explain our situation and make a little bit of an announcement. Martha is pregnant."

Martha added: "It hasn’t been this exciting, wonderful time for us. I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining. We are so excited, we are so happy, it was a compete surprise. But at five weeks I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarum.

"Which is severe chronic nausea and vomiting with no relief. It is 24-7. I literally didn’t get out of bed for two months.

"I was so sick. I could not eat or drink anything. There were days I didn’t even get up to pee. I lost 10 kilos in five weeks. We have been in and out of the emergency room and hospital."

The couple were paired by experts John Aiken, Mel Schilling and Alessandra Rampolla during the 2019 series of MAFS Australia, quickly becoming fan favourites alongside Cam Merchant and Jules Robinson.

After moving in together when leaving the show, teacher Michael popped the question to his girl in December 2021, with the couple announcing their news on social media and clearing up confusion to fans who thought they'd got 'married' on the show.
