Why Jessie J was a contestant on a Chinese talent show
This is different
Last updated 22nd Jan 2018
Jessie J has surprised fans by appearing on a Chinese talent show, but not as a judge as you would expect! This time Jessie J took to the stage as a contestant on the programme called I Am a Singer.
I Am a Singer is similar to The X Factor in the UK, except there is one big difference - all the contestants are already famous.
In the most recent episode the 'Flashlight' singer was up against Taiwanese singers Sam Lee and Angela Chang, and Chinese rocker Wang Feng.
As Jessie J had to choose a song that wasn't her own she decided on Whitney Houston's massive hit 'I Have Nothing'. Speaking on the show she revealed she had actually been in the same hotel when the iconic singer died.
"Unfortunately I was in the same hotel when she passed," Jessie revealed, "I want the Chinese audience and everyone else who is going to see it around the world to know, one how much I love Whitney Houston and two, to see how hard I push myself vocally."

WARNING: SPOILERS
Although before her performance Jessie revealed she was worried about hitting some of the high notes, she had nothing to worry about as she gave an amazing performance. It was so good that she won the competition and became the programme’s first-ever Anglo-American contestant.
Congratulations Jessie!
Jessie's appearance on this programme comes as she apparently wants to move back into singing, having appeared on The Voice previously as a judge. The 'Domino' singer is currently working on her fourth studio album 'R.O.S.E'.
