Game of Thrones obliterates Emmy Awards record - see full winners' list
It's a huge night for the show in Los Angeles
Honouring the best in American television, the 67th Emmy Awards took place at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles last night with Game of Thrones, Veep and Mad Men among the big winners.
Undoubtedly the most popular show on the planet right now, HBO blockbuster Game of Thrones won Best Drama Series for the first time since it’s been on air.
It also won Best Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage, Best Writing (David Benioff and DB Weiss) and Best Directing for a Drama Series (David Nutter).
Coupled with the eight honours it scooped at the Emmy’s Creative Arts Awards earlier this month, GoT’s tally of 12 awards in 2015 overtakes The West Wing’s previous record of nine wins in a year.
Other winners on the night were Jon Hamm, who finally scooped the Lead Actor award for his role as on Draper in Mad Men and Viola Davis who became the first black woman to win the Lead Actress in a Drama Series gong.
Veep was also a huge triumph winning four awards Comedy Series, Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Tony Hale) and Best Writing for a Comedy Series (Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci, Tony Roche).
Incredibly, Lady Gaga provided one of the talking points by NOT dressing in something outrageous instead opting elegant black dress.
