Coronation Street star, Beverley Callard, has opened up about her battle with depression as it's revealed she has been 'signed off work'.

Beverley, who is better known for her character Liz McDonald in the popular soap, shared an emotional message on Twitter regarding the medication she has been taking.

The actress wrote to her followers:

After receiving overwhelming support from fans, Beverley took to the social media site once again to thank her followers claiming "she's getting there."

According to reports, the 59-year-old has been struggling since the death of her friend and co-star Anne Kirkbride, who sadly passed away last year.

Regarding her medication a source said, "Bev has been taking different medication for the last 2 years then suddenly one was discontinued. She's hoping an alternative can be found and wants to return to work as soon as she's better."

Beverley first appeared on Coronation Street in 1984, before returning to the show in the more significant role of Liz McDonald in 1989. She left the soap in 1998 and returned in 2003. She then left again in 2011, seemingly for good, but returned to our screens in 2013.
