Yes, really

Once fierce pop rivals who competed for wall space on teenagers girls’ bedrooms in their 1990s heyday, Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC are joining forces in the most unlikely of ways!

Yes, members of the two multi-million selling American boy bands are uniting to make a “zombie Western futuristic horror movie” with the studio behind the infamous straight-to-TV movie series Sharknado.

Titled Dead 7, Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter has co-written the script and will and star in the apocalyptic movie alongside his band mates Howie Dorough and A.J. McLean.

Also among what Carter describes as a "ragtag band of gunslingers" is *NSYNC singer Joey Fatone.

"There's a wish list of people that I want," Carter told Rolling Stone. "I want it to be musically based. I might reach out to Jordan (Knight) from the New Kids on the Block."

Ruling out Justin Timberlake starring in the movie, Joey Fatone said: "I'm the only *NSYNC-er as of now, but you never know. Nick's vision is to bring some other people in that genre that have never really done a lot of film but that were in music in the Nineties and 2000s."

"Movies like this can turn into cult phenomenons and that's what Sharknado happened to be," added A.J. McLean, who stars as a baddie. "I watched it, I'm like, 'Okay, this is ridiculous but I'm still watching it and I think it's awesome.'"

David Latt from The Asylum, the filmmaking company behind a number of SyFy movies, said there was intense interest as soon as Carter revealed his premise for the film.

"What (Carter) came to us with was a big idea of pop music stars in a genre setting.

“A lot of the platforms, distributors and companies we work with responded to that immediately and we knew we had something we should move forward with."

At present there is no announcement about when the movie will be released but we’ll wait with fervent anticipation.
