Police in Turiff have been carrying out dedicated patrols after a string of assaults in the town.

The first attack took place at around 9:30pm at Cheyne's Place, off of Main Street, on Halloween. A 16-year-old boy was left with minor injuries.

A second assault took place outside Tesco on High Street at around 1:30am on November 1st, which left a 21-year-old injured.

A 26-year-old man has also been charged in relation to two seperate attacks that happened on Castle Street and Clifton Road on Halloween night.

Sergeant Richard Henderson, who took part in the patrols, said: "Over the two evenings, the public and the licenced trade were equally supportive of the increased police presence. A number of our team were approached by members of the community, who appreciated seeing more officers on the streets and felt this contributed to a safer atmosphere. In contrast to the previous weekend, there were no incidents of violence or anti-social behaviour reported."
