Shay Logan: Signing new Aberdeen deal was not an easy decision
The right-back has signed a new two-year deal after previously admitting he could return to England in the summer to be closer to his family.
Shay Logan admitted his decision to stay at Pittodrie was one of the hardest of his life - but he decided a return to England could not match the buzz Aberdeen provides.
The right-back has signed a new two-year deal after previously admitting he could return to England in the summer to be closer to his family.
The 28-year-old has made more than 100 appearances and been a key player in the team's improvement under Derek McInnes.
When asked whether it was an easy decision to sign the deal, Logan said: "Most definitely not. Probably one of the hardest in my life. It took a long time to come to this decision but I'm happy with it and I think I have made the right choice.
"My family is always going to be there for me. That was a big thing in this. I have children down south and they are always going to be there.
"I get enough time in the week and the season to go and see them and for them to come up here.
"There were other options. I'm sure if I decided not to sign, there could have been more options. But I'm more than happy with it. I could have left it longer but I'm happy with Aberdeen, happy with the fans, happy with the manager.
"The manager has been the best manager I have ever worked under and he has looked after me. His man-management has been top notch.
"I have had a really positive influence from the club and everyone around the club since I have been here.
"If I'm going to sign for a club down south, maybe the money might be better but I have European football and the games we play up here, not a lot of players experience that down south.
"When I experienced that and the buzz around the club in the city, that was definitely a factor.''
Logan dismissed fears he might have left because of perceptions that they will find it difficult to mount another title challenge. They have fallen nine points behind Ladbrokes Premiership leaders Celtic and failure to beat Motherwell on Saturday could spell the end of the race.
"You are saying it will be a lot tougher because Rangers are coming up,'' Logan told a media conference.
"It's going to be a tough league but that's another factor, Rangers coming up; the rivalry they have with Aberdeen; they rivalry they have with Celtic; the rivalry we have with Celtic. Hopefully Hibs come up as well and that makes it a very strong league.
"I'm not a person to shy away from a challenge. I know it's going to be harder than it was this season but that's what you want. I don't want it to be all rosy, rosy, I want to be playing against the best players.''
