Peterhead Boat Fire Traced To Generator Room
A fire on board a boat which forced the evacuation of 84 crew members started in the supply generator room below deck.
Fire crews were called to the scene in Peterhead Harbour at around 3am today and had the blaze under control within two hours.
At the height of the incident, 35 firefighters were involved in tackling the blaze on offshore supply vessel Fugro Symphony.
Three firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and a member of the ship's firefighting team traced the fire to the supply generator room.
They battled the blaze using CO2 extinguishers and the ship's internal firefighting mechanisms.
Fire station manager Graeme Laird said: "Crews worked well with the ship's firefighting team and showed good firefighting understanding in challenging conditions.
"The ship's firefighting team provided us with the information we needed to deal with the fire appropriately.''
The 84 crew on board were evacuated to the Fishermen's Mission in Peterhead, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said.
No-one was injured in the incident on the 13,000 tonne vessel.
The SFRS had five appliances, a foam unit and an incident support unit at the scene.
