A pensioner has died following a fire in Moray.
The blaze broke out on Robertson Road in Lhanbryde near Elgin just before 7.30am this morning.
The woman, who was in her 80s, died at the scene of the fire.
Firefighters tackled the flames for more than 30-minutes wearing breathing apparatus.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “A woman has died following a fire at a house on Robertson Road in Lhanbryde.”
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service added: “The fire began just before 7.30am and the stop message came in just after eight. Firefighters used one hose-reel jet and four breathing apparatus.
“A joint investigation is now underway to establish how the fire started and we are trying to get in touch with the woman’s next of kin.”
Reacting to the news of the fire, Fochabers Lhanbryde councillor Margo Howe said: “I was so sorry to hear about such an awful tragedy in Lhanbryde and my thoughts and prayers are with everyone close to the lady who has sadly lost her life.
“An incident like this also has a big impact on the wider community and I know that folk will pull together to help in any way that they can.”
