Man Murdered In Peterhead Named

Police Scotland have confirmed a man who was found murdered in Peterhead on Sunday was 36 -year-old Martynas Krasauskas.

A man appeared in court today (September 29) charged with murder after a body was discovered in a flat at the weekend.

Police were called to King Street in Peterhead on Sunday morning at around 8am after a male, thought to be a Lithuanian national, was found dead.

A large section of the street, which cuts through the heart of the seaside town, was cordoned off throughout the day as detectives examined the scene for clues.

Police said the death was being treated as "suspicious" and launched a murder enquiry, which resulted in a man being arrested and charged on Monday.

Kestutis Butkevicius appeared in private at Peterhead Sheriff Court charged with murder.

Butkevicius, 44, from Peterhead, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

Police have yet to release the identity of the deceased.
