Man killed in North East car crash

A second man has been critically injured in a separate accident

A driver has died in a two-car crash in Aberdeenshire.

The 49-year-old man was driving a silver Mini that collided with a black Toyota Avensis on the A947 Newmachar to Oldmeldrum road at around 4pm on Tuesday.

The man died at the scene, around two miles outside OIdmeldrum.

The driver of the Avensis was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Another man is fighting for his life in hospital after a head on crash on the A944 near Sauchen about an hour later.

The driver of the second car was treated for minor injuries.

Both roads have now been re-opened.

Officers are investigating and have appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 101.
