Two men have been killed in a road accident on Deeside.

It happed at 9:50pm last night on the A93 Banchory to Aboyne road, near the entrance to Aboyne Loch Caravan Park.

A red Volkswagen Golf had left the road and struck a tree.

The two men inside, who were aged 24 and 32 years - were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The road re-opened just after 6am this morning.

Road Policing Inspector Jon Barron say too many lives are being lost on Aberdeenshire roads:

Mr Barron added: "This was a devastating and tragic incident which has very sadly resulted in the deaths of two young males. Our thoughts are very much with their families and friends at this difficult time.

"Our enquiries into the circumstances are at a very early stage. In order to help piece together exactly what has happened, it is vital that we speak with anyone that may have any relevant information. I would urge anyone who hasn't yet got in touch with us to do so by phoning 101 or calling at their nearest police office."
