LISTEN: Forensic Expert Discusses Ground Searches For Missing Shaun Ritchie

Published 17th Jul 2015

Forensic scientists have joined the search to find missing Fraserburgh man Shaun Ritchie.

The 19-year-old dissappeared last Halloween night, after celebrating with friends in woodland near Strichen.

Officers leading the enquiry to trace him have been assisted by specialists Professor Lorna Dawson, Head of Forensic Soil Science at the James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen and Dr Alastair Ruffell, a forensic geoscientist in the School of Geography, Archaeology & Palaeoecology at Queen's University, in Belfast.

Professor Dawson and Dr Ruffell carried out ground searches in the area where Shaun Ritchie was last seen by methods including the use of ground-penetrating radar and electro magnetics.

Our reporter Hope Webb spoke to Proffessor Dawson about what she has discovered so far.
