Listen: Call for more transparency over findings into Bailey Gwynne's death
The report has been branded as "bitterly disappointing"
There's been a call for more transparency over details into the death of an Aberdeen schoolboy.
The City's Chief Officers Group has released its report into the fatal stabbing of Bailey Gwynne at Cults Academy.
A review conducted by Andrew Lowe found that the youngsters death was "potentially avoidable" had it been reported that killer carried weapons.
Mr Lowe called for the Scottish government to review the powers that teachers have over searching pupils on school grounds.
A number of statements on circumstances surrounding the 16-year-old's death have been taken out of the report.
It's lead to criticism that information is being kept from the public.
However the Chief Officers Group and Aberdeen City Council the statements have been redacted for data protection reasons, and that permission to publish them has not been given by their authors.
North East Conservative MSP Ross Thomson says he'd like to see more information revealed.
He says it damages public confidence if key details are kept secret.
The Chief Officers Group stated: “We understand the interest in the content of the review but we are bound by Data Protection laws and respect the wishes of the individuals and families involved.
"The review contains a great deal of sensitive, confidential and legally restricted information. We committed to seeking the permissions required to publish that information and have worked extensively to complete that process.
“In October the Chief Officers Group stated its determination to implement the recommendations contained within Andrew Lowe’s review and that implementation is progressing well.
"As a group we are going beyond the recommendations and have a comprehensive plan in place, including the roll-out of the anti-weapon strategy in our schools.
“The aim of the Independent Review was to provide assurance to our organisations and to the public that all circumstances in relation to Bailey’s death have been examined and to make appropriate recommendations which can be applied for future practice.
"The conclusions reached and the recommendations have been shared and acted upon.”
