Homes on Riverside Drive Evacuated as River Dee Bursts Banks
Residents on Riverside Drive, Aberdeen are being evacuated due to flooding and being moved to Norwood Hall which has been opened as a rest centre.
Residents in Riverside Drive, Aberdeen are being evacuated due to flooding and being moved to Norwood Hall which has been opened as a rest centre.
Power cuts have reportedly closed both supermarkets at Garthdee with the river bursting it’s banks behind Sainsburys.
A search and rescue helicopter and emergency services are also currently searching the River Dee near to the Bridge of Dee following reports of what seems to have been a car in the water.
It is not known if anyone is in the vehicle.
SEPA have issued a flood warning for the River Dee which is currently in force.
“River levels will be leading to significant water depths in the flood warning area. We expect flooding to the Inchgarth Reservoir, properties around Waterside and the retail area around Bridge of Dee. Flooding is also expected alongside Riverside Drive (A945). For information, it is currently high tide.”
Flooding has also closed many roads in the area including;
- Inchgarth Drive, Aberdeen between Primrosebank Avenue and Shaken Brig - Riverside Drive, Aberdeen between Queen Elizabeth Bridge and George VI Bridge
Deeside saw the worst of the flooding earlier today with homes still underwater and the A93 closed in many places;
- A93 between Ballater and approximately 1.5 miles east of Balmoral/Crathie - A93 at Cambus O May - A93 between Crathie and Braemar - A93 at Potarch Bridge quarter of a mile east of Kincardine O'Neil - A93 Deeside Road in Aboyne - A937 Marykirk
Other road closures in Aberdeenshire include;
- B976 Dee Bridge onto South Deeside Road - B974 Banchory Bridge at Strachan - Bridge of Feugh at Banchory off the B974
The Maryculter Bridge remains closed. Aberdeenshire Council advise that Maryculter Bridge will remain closed until a structural inspection can be carried out.
