A disturbance in the Chapel Street area of Aberdeen is understood to have involved both home and away football fans.
Police say they were made aware of the trouble in the early hours of Friday morning, and have arrested supporters of both Aberdeen and Slovenian side Maribor.
The two teams met in a Europa League qualifying match at Pittodrie on Thursday night.
Match commander Chief Inspector Nick Topping said: "I can confirm that a number of people are currently detained following a minor disturbance in the early hours of this morning involving some individuals who we believe are football fans from both clubs.
"This was a contained and isolated incident which posed no threat to any other members of the community, and no one was seriously injured.
"In saying this I cannot stress how disappointed I am that a small minority chose to conduct themselves in a disorderly manner.
"There were no reports of any anti-social behaviour leading up to the match last night, during the match and in the immediate aftermath, and I would like to thank all those fans who attended and acted responsibly and enjoyed the game.
"Anti-social behaviour in any shape or form will not be tolerated. There is no place for disorderly behaviour in our towns and cities and I can assure you it will be robustly dealt with.
"I would like to reassure the public that our officers will continue to take positive action to target individuals who engage in anti-social or disorderly behaviour and bring them before the courts.
"I would also like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and thinks they might have information which could assist our inquiry to contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you would prefer to remain anonymous."
