A top Aberdeen councillor says there can't be a new AECC without millions of pounds from the Scottish Government. Finance Convenor Willie Young says plans for the ÂŁ185 million facility in Dyce could be under threat if the Scottish Government doesn't step in.

It's thought around ÂŁ30 million is needed, in order for construction to start.

Scottish Enterprise – a public body arm of the Scottish Government gave £25m towards the SSE Hydro in Glasgow and also helped Edinburgh’s International Conference Centre.

A business case for the scheme had been due to go before councillors in December, but consideration of a report was delayed until March because officials were waiting for the results of a third-party assessment.

The facility, if it goes ahead, would replace the current conference centre, and would hold up to 15,000 people standing, have enhanced conference space and a four-star, 200-bedroom hotel.
