No Fatal Accident Inquiry into Preston's death

Published 7th May 2015

The family of Preston Flores have been told there won't be a Fatal Accident Inquiry.

He's the 7 year old boy who was discovered on fire on Aberdeen's Bedford Road more than a year ago - he later died in hospital.

The full circumstances still haven't been made public.

Last month the police apologised to Preston's family for a series of errors in the way they handled the case - including telling the media he'd died before making sure all his relatives were informed.

The Crown Office has released this statement:

"The procurator fiscal received a report in connection with the death of a seven-year-old boy on April 22, 2014 following an incident in Aberdeen on April 18, 2014.

"The investigation into the death, under the direction of Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit, has now concluded.

"Following careful consideration of all the factors involved in this case, independent Crown Counsel are satisfied that the cause of the death has been established and have decided not to hold a fatal accident inquiry.

"The family have been advised of the result of our investigation and the decision not to hold a fatal accident inquiry."
