Family pay tribute to teenager car crash victim
The heartbroken family of a teenager who died following an Aberdeenshire crash have thanked the medics and emergency workers who fought to save the "much-loved'' 17-year-old.
Benjamin Waterfield died in hospital on Sunday as a result of injuries he suffered in the collision in the early hours of Saturday.
The two-car crash, which also injured three other people, happened at about 2.15am that day on the A947 between Dyce and Newmachar.
In a statement released via police, the teenager's family said: "We are devastated and heartbroken at the loss of Benjamin, a much-loved son, brother and grandson. "We would like to thank all the emergency workers involved in the inquiry and would particularly like to thank the staff at the intensive care unit who fought just as hard as Benjamin did.
"We would request that our family be left as we try to come to terms with our loss. As a family, we are thinking of everyone involved in the accident."
Two men aged 19 and 23 and a 16-year-old girl were taken to hospital with serious injuries following the crash involving a blue Seat Leon and a silver Citroen C2.
Sergeant Neil Morrison, of Police Scotland, said: "Our sympathy is with Benjamin's family at this sad time.
"While our inquiries are continuing, I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision and who has yet to come forward, or anyone who has any information, to telephone 101 as soon as possible.''
