A number of drivers were caught speeding by Police in Aberdeenshire yesterday - including one driver who caught at a speed of 122mph.

Police were carrying out checks on the A96 between Inverurie and Huntly yesterday - where the speed limit is 60mph.

Six men were recorded at speeds between 86mph and 103mph. the drivers aged between 26 and 46, have been charged and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal, with the remaining drivers being issued with fixed penalties.

In addition to this, officers also detected two male drivers, aged 24 and 62, on the A96 dual carriageway, between Inverurie and Kintore, travelling at 113mph and 122mph. Both have been charged with Dangerous Driving.

Sergeant Steve Manson from the Trunk Road Policing Group said: "Despite highly publicising our activity on the roads, it's clear the message is still not getting through to a minority of selfish drivers who continue to put others, and themselves, at risk by continuing to disregard safety and drive in such a manner.

"It’s deeply concerning that all of the speeds detected between 86mph and 122 miles per hour were recorded at one of the busiest time of the day, between 4pm and 6pm.

"With inappropriate speed still being the factor in many fatal and serious collisions, officers from the Trunk Road Patrol Group and Divisional Road Policing units will continue to work together to actively target drivers who continue to ignore these messages, issuing fixed penalties or reporting any offenders where appropriate."
