Road policing sergeant Steve Milne has appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
An 11-year-old boy has died after being hit by a van on a dual carriageway. He was crossing the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road at Newtonhill, Aberdeenshire, when he was struck at around 6.20pm yesterday. The boy, who has not yet been named, died from his injuries at Aberdeen Children's Hospital. Road policing sergeant Steve Milne has appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. He said: 'It is vital that we piece together what has happened. Witness accounts are key to this and a full investigation into the circumstances is now under way.'' The road was closed for about five hours and diversions were put in place as accident investigators attended the scene. Earlier, in Aberdeen, a motorist was seriously hurt when his car left the road. Wellington Road was shut following the accident at around 7.25pm yesterday.
