Aberdeen MSP Commends "Amazing Efforts" Of City's Volunteers

Aberdeen Central MSP, Kevin Stewart, has shown his support for Aberdeen’s volunteers.

The Scottish Household Survey showed that 62,000 people aged over 16 in Aberdeen volunteer, providing 6.2 million hours of help across communities.

This means that formal volunteers living in the city contributed £107 million to the area's economy

Mr Stewart believes that the Saltire Awards initiative, with its links to the curriculum for excellence, is helping to attract young people into volunteering and that a certificated volunteering placement offers direct opportunities for them to develop as successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

Mr Stewart said:* *“I congratulate everyone who took part in and celebrated Volunteers' Week, and hope that people across the country will continue the tradition of giving up some of their time to help others.

"It is quite staggering to see the amount of time that Aberdonians have given to help others and each and every volunteer in our city should be proud of their efforts.”
