Aberdeen To Host Scotland's Hedgehog Pageant

Think of crufts, but instead of dogs, it's hedgehogs being judged!

That's the basis of Scotland's very first Hedgehog Pageant, which is set to be held in Aberdeen next month.

The event has been organised by Zoe Rooney, from Aberdeen, who's a licensed breeder of African pygmy hedgehogs and owns 20 herself.

She says the welfare of the animals will be paramount at the pageant.

Our reporters Hope Webb and Phil McDonald went to meet Zoe and the little hedgehogs themselves.

It will take place in Ferryhill Community Centre on the 11th April between 12-4pm.

Hedgehogs will be judged on categories such as their appearance, the quality of their quills and their personality.

There will also be a number of different awards to win, such as the hedgehog that can eat a bowl of mealworms the fastest, and a hedgehog race.

The event will also feature facpainting and a "Hug A Hog" station, where kids can interact with the little spiked friends.
