WATCH: Aberdeen FC legend backs Northsound 2’s digital switchover!
Aberdeen FC legend Neil Simpson is backing Northsound 2’s digital switchover, with the Gothenberg Great sharing his favourite pre-match songs in preparation for the Scottish Cup semi-final this weekend.
Neil Simpson visited the Northsound 2 station ahead of making the trip to Hampden to see two of his former sides Aberdeen and Motherwell compete in the William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final this weekend.
Neil’s days on the pitch at Pittodrie saw the team warming up to classic songs such as Beat It by Michael Jackson and Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger, while today’s squad’s dressing room choices include current chart hits including Paradise by George Ezra and Symphony by Clean Bandit featuring Zara Larsson.
The former AFC star is a longstanding Northsound listener and is now an official ambassador for the ‘NORTHSOUND 2 – WE’RE GOING DIGITAL!’ campaign.

Northsound 2 became the first station in Scotland to make the switch to digital from analogue on April 3.
Neil, who is now Head of Youth Academy at Aberdeen Football Club said: “Northsound 2 has been my favourite station for years. I tuned in during my days as a player at Pittodrie and I still listen daily in the car now, whether I’m heading to work or dropping my son off at school.
“The station plays the biggest hits that remind me of my playing career when I used to listen to tracks like ‘Everywhere’ by Fleetwood Mac, ‘Billie Jean’ by Michael Jackson and my favourite pre-match song – ‘Eye of the Tiger’ by Survivor.
“It’s great the station has led the way for digital broadcasting in Scotland, providing fantastic broadcast quality and convenient listening on the move and I’m very pleased to be part of the journey.”
The ‘NORTHSOUND 2 – WE’RE GOING DIGITAL!’ campaign was launched earlier this month to raise awareness of the planned switchover and to inform listeners how to keep listening to the North-east’s ‘Greatest Hits’ station.
Digital listening offers a number of key benefits, including hugely improved sound quality, as well as the opportunity to listen anywhere, either online or through an app.
Although listeners can no longer tune into Northsound 2 on the AM analogue frequency, they can still listen on DAB Digital Radio, online at www.northsound2.com, via the Northsound app and via Smart speakers like Amazon Echo and Google Home.
“Now we’ve made the switch to digital, we’re giving our listeners the chance to win digital radios courtesy of VQ and Pure to make sure they can listen to the North-east’s Greatest Hits station on the move.”
