There has been an outpouring of support on social media for Dean Windass after the Hull City legend confirmed he had been diagnosed with level two dementia.

The 55 year old revealed he was told the news after recently going for a scan.

The former striker also had spells at Aberdeen, Bradford City, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United.

Windass is widely remembered by Hull City fans though for scoring the most famous goal in the club's history - securing the Tigers' first ever promotion to the top flight in 2008.

He has responded to a wave of supportive social media posts about his diagnosis by posting on X: "Seriously I am ok was delighted to find out I had a brain.

"Just hope other families get the help what they want for the people they have lost."
