Detectives investigating a shooting in Yeovil have charged a man with offences including attempted murder.

No one was injured when a gun was fired at Lufton Trading Estate at around 12.45pm on Wednesday 1st October 2025, but a cordon was put in place.

James McGuinness - who's 30 and lives in Yeovil - is due in court tomorrow charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

A woman in her 20s who was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on bail.

Speaking following news of two arrests yesterday, Inspector Roseanna Green from Avon and Somerset Police said:

“We have no information to suggest there is any wider risk to the public, however officers are working tirelessly to ensure we identify the people responsible.

“Extra patrols have been taking place in the area since Wednesday and these will be continuing over the weekend. If you have any questions or concerns, they will be happy to help.”
