"The boy was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. An investigation was launched immediately with teams working round the clock, utilising specialist resources from South Yorkshire Police and other forces.

"Yesterday (1 December) evening, detectives charged two people in connection with the shooting.

"Tanzir Ali, aged 26, of Glencoe Road, Sheffield, is charged with attempt murder and possessing a firearm without a certificate.

"Both have been remanded into custody ahead of appearing at Sheffield Magistrates' Court today (2 December).
