Three wolf type animals have been caught near Preston.

Officers and specialist dog handlers secured them yesterday afternoon on Station lane in Barton and took them to a safe place.

Police are still working to confirm exactly what the animals are and say they will be handed over to the right authorities once checks are finished.

There is no wider danger to the public.

In a statement last night, Lancashire Police said: "We know this might have caused some discussion in the community, so we thought it important to provide you with this update and reassure you that there is not thought to be any risk to the public.

"Thank you to those who made reports to us or provided us with information or footage this afternoon."
