A teenage girl has died and a second teenager has been seriously injured in a crash involving a minibus and a car in Tadcaster.

North Yorkshire Police have confirmed emergency services were called to an incident in Toulston Lane, at its junction with Rudgate, at around 12.28pm today (Monday 1st December 2025).

Officers say a white Mercedes Sprinter minibus carrying nine passengers aged 16 to 18 was involved in a collision with a light-coloured Hyundai i10 car.

In a statement a spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police confirmed a teenage girl tragically died at the scene.

Another teenage girl is being treated in hospital for serious injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

The other passengers - including a man driving the minibus - were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A 40-year-old woman, who was driving the Hyundai car involved in the crash, has been arrested.

Toulston Lane remains closed as enquiries continue at the scene.

Kirsty Poskitt, a North Yorkshire Councillor from the Tadcaster Division, said in a statement: "An incredibly sad day for our town. I want to join others in sending my heartfelt condolences to the young people involved in today’s tragic accident and to the family of the young girl who died, you are in my thoughts.

"The loss of any life is a sad time but a life ending so early is truly devastating.

"The ripples of a loss like this spread far through the school and wider community. In my roles as Youth Worker and Councillor I will do all I can to support those impacted the most.
