Student living in Leeds who died in Air India crash was visiting home to get marriage proposal permission

A West Yorkshire student has been named as one of the victims of the Air India crash

A Huddersfield University student, who lived in Leeds had flown back to India to ask his girlfriend's family for permission to marry him.

Dirdh Patel, 22, was living with his brother, Krutik, and sister-in-law, Kena, after he came to the UK to study a masters in Artificial Intelligence.

A family friend, Raj Kaur: "Dirdh was just one of those people who was always beaming with a smile, he was always so warm and kind. He was so much fun and just loved life."

She goes on to say: "He's the kind of person you hope your children will turn out to be like."

Meanwhile, UK air accident investigators have arrived in India as tributes continue for the 270 victims of the Air India plane crash.

The Gatwick-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner went down shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday.

All models of the jet are now being inspected by the Indian government.
