Staff at Port of Felixstowe to strike over pay
Unite members are rejecting a below inflation pay rise
Workers at a Suffolk container port have voted to strike in a dispute over pay.
Members of the Unite union at the Port of Felixstowe backed industrial action by 9-1.
The union said an offer of a 5% pay rise is an effective wage cut because of the soaring rate of inflation.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: "This is an extremely wealthy company that can fully afford to give its workers a pay rise.
"Unite is focused on defending the jobs, pay and conditions of its members and we will be giving 100% support to our members at Felixstowe.
"Workers should not be paying the price for the pandemic with a pay cut.
"Unite has undertaken 360 disputes in a matter of months and we will do all in our power to defend workers."
