Queen legend Brian May has been knighted by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace today (14th March).

On 31st December, it was announced that Brian would become a Sir as part of the 2023 edition of the King’s New Year Honours List.

The guitar icon was knighted today “for services to music and charity work” at a Buckingham Palace investiture ceremony and he’s now officially known as Sir Brian Harold May.

After the lavish ceremony, Sir Brian posed for photos outside Buckingham Palace with his wife Anita Dobson.

Brian May was previously appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) back in 2005.

“I’m happy and grateful to receive this honour,” Brian May said of his knighthood. “I will regard the knighthood not so much as a reward, but more as a charge—a commission—for me to continue to fight for justice – to be a voice for those who have no voice. I will endeavour to be worthy – to be that Knight in Shining Armor.”

Alongside changing the face of music forever with Queen, Sir Brian May achieved a doctorate in astrophysics from Imperial College London in 2007 and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Sir Brian is also a tireless animal rights campaigner, and he revealed earlier this year that he would never play Glastonbury Festival due to Michael Eavis’ stance on the badger cull.
