Arrests made after teenager killed in Leeds hit-and-run
Police appeal for witnesses following fatal crash on Middleton Ring Road
Police in Leeds have arrested two teenagers and are urgently appealing for witnesses after a 19-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run on Middleton Ring Road.
The fatal collision happened at around 10.09pm on Friday evening (16th May), when a red Ford Focus turned left from Bodmin Approach and struck the teenager as he was crossing the road near the Leeds Urban Bike Park in Beeston Park.
The car failed to stop at the scene, leaving the young man with serious injuries. Despite efforts by emergency services, he tragically died at the roadside.
Officers from the Major Collision and Enquiry Team (MCET) have recovered the vehicle and arrested a 15-year-old boy and a 19-year-old on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
They remain in custody as investigations continue.
Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle, who is leading the enquiry, said:
“A substantial number of enquiries remain ongoing today into this very serious collision which has tragically resulted in the death of a young male.
“We are supporting his family and continue to hold two males in custody following their arrest on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
“We are actively appealing for information and footage to assist the investigation and would like to speak to anyone who has CCTV, dashcam or phone footage of the collision, or of the car involved, just before it took place.”
Road closures remain in place around the scene while officers carry out necessary investigation work.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Collision and Enquiry Team on 101 or via West Yorkshire Police’s Live Chat, quoting log 2115 of 16th May.
