King Charles has been praised for his "flawless" firing technique during a visit to the Royal Artillery in Wiltshire.

The monarch arrived at the artillery site in Larkhill, being greeted with a 21-gun salute - in his first visit to the site since assuming the title of Captain General.

As the ceremonial head of the regiment after taking on the Crown, Charles also received a royal salute as he arrived at the headquarters, being met by artillery officials.

During his tour of the campus, Charles was seen taking in a number of historical artefacts, including a tunic worn by his great-grandfather King George V.

While there, the monarch also met with service personnel as well as some Chelsea Pensioners on the service given to the country.

Rounding out his trip, the King was given the chance to fire a single shot of an L118 artillery gun.

Putting on a pair of ear defenders, the monarch was guided on how to operate the machinery, before wincing as the shot was fired.

However, Sergeant Neil Mitchell praised his technique at pulling the lever which triggered the shot, saying: "The first one he didn't give it a good enough pull but the second time was faultless."

He added jokingly: "I was going to ask him if he could start on Monday."
