Investigations continue at scene of fatal Dundalk crash

Five people in their early 20's died in the collision on Saturday night

Gardaí will carry out further examinations today (Mon) at the scene of a crash in County Louth that claimed the lives of five young adults.

All of the victims were in their early 20's.

They’ve been named as Chloe McGee, Alan McCluskey, Dillon Commins, and Shay Duffy, who were all from Ireland, and Chloe Hipson from Scotland.

The collision happened on the Ardee Road in Dundalk on Saturday night.

Post-mortem examinations will take place over the coming days.

Irish President Catherine Connolly said she was "deeply saddened and shocked" at the loss of five "precious, young lives" on Saturday night."

She said, "I am thinking of them, their families and of those injured."

"May I acknowledge also all those first responders who have worked to support all involved."

Northern Ireland’s First and Deputy First Ministers are among those offering their condolences.

First Minister Michelle O’Neill said, “My heart is absolutely broken following the tragic road accident in Louth that has taken the lives of five young people.”

“No family should ever have to endure such unimaginable heartache. My deepest sympathies go out to the families, friends, and local communities of the young people.”

Meanwhile Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly said, “Absolutely shocking tragedy in Dundalk. All so young and so many grieving and heartbroken families and friends today, undoubtedly struggling to come to terms with what has happened.”

“Thinking too of the police and emergency services who dealt with what must have been a deeply traumatising scene.”
