Several hundred people believed to be at 'illegal gathering' in Cornwall

Police say the event is covering quite a large area and a cordon and road closures remain in force

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed a significant number of specialist resources have been deployed to the scene of an 'illegal gathering' in north Cornwall.

They say several hundred people are believed to be at the event at Davidstow Moor, described on social media as a rave, and have reportedly travelled from across the country.

The force was alerted to the incident at around 10pm on Friday 3rd have June and had been working to close it down.

It follows claims of music so loud, residents living in the surrounding villages struggled to sleep and it could be heard from as far as 10 miles away.

Currently, there is a cordon around the site and a number of roads in the area are shut until further notice.

Devon and Cornwall Police are reassuring the public they are taking the matter seriously and are urging anything thinking of attending not to do so.

A force spokesperson said: "The event is currently covering quite a large area and we believe there are several hundred people in attendance.

"A number of people have left this morning and others attempting to enter have been turned away.

"In the interest of public safety, we are asking anyone thinking about attending the event not to do so.

"I would like to reassure the local communities and wider public that we are taking this matter seriously and where appropriate, we will seek to action against those attending and running the event".

There is currently a police cordon in place around the site and a number of local roads in the area until further notice.

There is heavy traffic and travel disruption around Camelford and other areas so motorists should expect delays and are urged to avoid the area.
